Insecurity - O. Aishwarya (III BA Economics)

Locked in a cage of doubts and insecurities,
I would love to be able to just let it go.
But my thoughts defy me, words anger me,
And the actions of others hurt me irrevocably.
Oh! How I wish I could find a way
To silence these voices for evermore
If I could only hush this voice of my mind
I know in the end I’ll be just fine.
The voice that wounds me with barbs and arrows.
The voice that says I’m unworthy, unloved.
The voice that says I’m not pretty enough.
That’s the voice of my insecurity.
Yet I have decided in the deepest corner of my heart,
Some day I will just let it go.
I’ll break the bars of the cage that holds me,
and emerge triumphant and victorious
Into a world full of possibilities
Where words don’t hurt me anymore
And the actions that people perform
Wont have the power to break my form.
One day in the not-so-distant future.
I will find the strength to just let go.

A Bloody Deed- Dr. Tom C. Thomas( Asst.Prof. Dep. of English)

Writing is writhing of the soul
On the swaddling clothes
Of the papyrus scrolls
And lies in ambush for another stall.

Writing  is

Bloodletting
To purge the beast of
Some uncanny possession.

Writing is compromising

With what puzzles the nerves
It is transmigration
of the spirit to carbon stains

Writing combines

The whimper of death
With
The buzz of birth

The quill spills fire

To suckle the bold
And the flimsy flies
Flee from the udder

Writing lets loose

A million fireflies
To the murky nights,
That they call 'tomorrow'.

A Letter from parents- J SOWMYA BHAKTHAN( II DC ECONOMICS)

My child,

When I get old, I hope you understand and have patience with me
In case I break the plate, or spill soup on the table because I am losing my eyesight, I hope you
you don't yell at me.
Older people are sensitive, always having self pity when you yell.
When my hearing get's worse and I can't hear what you are saying
I hope you don't call me "DEAF".
Please repeat what you said or write it down. I'm sorry my child
I'm getting older.
when my  knees get weaker, I hope you have the patience to help me get up.
Like how I used to help you while you were little, learning how to walk.
Please bear with me, when I keep, repeating myself like a broken record.
I hope you just keep listening to me.
Please don't make fun of me, or get sick of listening to me.
Do you remember when you were little and you wanted a balloon?
You repeated yourself over and over until you get what you wanted.
Please also pardon my smell. I smell like an old person.
Please don't force me to  shower.  My body is weak.
Old people get sick easily when they are cold. I hope I don't gross you out.
Do you remember when you were little?
I used to chase you around because you didn't want to shower.
I hope you can be patient with me when i'm always cranky. It's all part of getting old
You will understand when you are older.
And if you have spare time,I hope you can talk for a few minutes.
I'm always all by myself all the time. And have no one to talk to.
I know you are busy with

the work.
Even if you are not interested in my stories, Please have time for me.
Do you remember when you were little?
I used to listen to your stories about your teddy bear.
When the time comes and I get ill  and bedridden, I hope you have the patience
to take care of me.
I'm sorry if I have accidentally wet the bed or make a mess.
I hope you have the patience to take care of me during the last few moments of my  life.
I'm not going to last much longer, anyway.
When the time of my death comes, I hope you hold my hand and give me strength
to face DEATH.
And don't worry.....
When I finally meet our creator,
I will whisper in his ear to BLESS you.
Because you loved your Mom and Dad.

Thank you so much for your care.
We love you.
                                                                                                                  With much LOVE
                                                                                                                    Mom and Dad

The Journey To Dawn

Bhanusree S. Kumar of I Year BA English Copy Editor joins us on Heart-Bytes with 'The Journey to Dawn'. We look forward to her pleasant companionship on our own literary sojourn.

The Journey to Dawn

I dived fathoms deep
Into the raven-hued dark
Devoid of any chirp,
Caw, mew or bark.

I swam through the raucous
Silence that scares,
Amidst unwelcome beasts
Of day and their snares.

The air smelled rancid
From the waft of fear,
But vanished when I put
My faith in prayer.

Once or twice, I sensed
Visages familiar,
But time was scarce
And my route was clear.

I begged the waves to
Bless me with time to spare,
As I watched the act
With voices in full blare.

The act was a tale of joy
Peppered with no vicious treachery.
Just some harmless titter
That augmented the serenity.

But something clasped and
Shoved me to and fro,
And the waves around me
Humungous did they grow.

I craved for the lost peace
But saw my mother at the bay.
Her words ran amok
And slew all felicity in the fray.

Dragging my drowsy frame up, I straightened
The arrogance of my exhausted frizz.
The torment of the first rays ceased and
I soaked myself in the early morning bliss.

A Poem In Two Parts

Abraham Varghese from 3rd Year BSc Mathematics thinks aloud on a socially relevant topic.

1

THE COMMON MAN

Bloodshed on the streets
weapons on rent,
corruption now painted
Saffron, White and Green!

“The whole state in turmoil,
why should I care?
I have my own problems,
I’m a common man!”

At day a pedestrian
at night a silent sleeper
immune to flattery and critics
skin made of callousness

“The money is mine,
so is the energy.
When words are used
to wound and kill,
I take to silence
Silence is my right!”

2
THE UNCOMMON MAN

“People, people everywhere
not a single one to help!
I am left all alone
to save this wounded soul.

Money enters to close the heart,
taking control of every part.
Also, power corrupts the mind
a person at peace, hard to find.

“All the corrupt must be condemned
so must those men with swords,
we strive to remove every blot
with our sweat blood and tears”

Silence only spawns more evil
empowering vice to dictate the terms,
instead protest, disobey and shout.
If one of them hears,
that's a start!"
